Can a Drink Marketed as Good For You, Really BE Good For You?

The World’s First Oral Health Drink…

In a series of dental articles, the Saskatoon dental team at NEESH Dental share information, dental tips, and our opinion on relevant and interesting topics that can help you make informed decisions about your oral health. In our latest post, we discuss the recent development of an oral health drink being labeled as a healthy alternative to sugary and acidic drinks.

There was a recent article in the Daily Mail about a drink that is good for your mouth created by Dr. Angie Lang, an Australian dentist.  Swirlit, the name of the new drink, is intended to replace beverages that cause tooth decay and erode enamel. According to Dr. Lang there is nothing else out there like it.

“Vitamin waters were really popular around the time I was researching,”  said Dr. Lang, “but even these aren’t always the best for your enamel. I set out to develop a drink that had a simple philosophy – sugar free and pH neutral, so it wouldn’t cause dental decay and erosion.”

Dr. Lang created Swirlit after seeing the detrimental effect of acidic, sugary beverages on many of her patients’ teeth. The drink’s ingredients include tea extract, cinnamon, botanicals, vitamins, prebiotics and a sugar free sweetener called xylitol. Xylitol tastes sweet but unlike sugar it is not converted in the mouth to acids that cause tooth decay. All of Swirlit’s ingredients appear to be good for you especially when compared to the list of ingredients on a can of Coke or Pepsi!

So what does the team of dental professionals at NEESH think about the world’s first oral health drink?

Our opinion is that there really is nothing that beats drinking regular, plain old water to help maintain good oral health. The less processed the water – no bottles, no additives, no sugar, no flavours – the better. Seeking out water alternatives and decreasing your water intake can have a negative effect on your teeth and gums.

It is also best that you educate yourself on the needs of your body so that you can achieve good oral health through diet and proper dental care at home. It is important not to rely on an oral health drink to improve your oral hygiene.

In general, we’d like the public to be wary of a marketing scheme like this, even if it is promoting a product made by a doctor or dentist. It’s always a good idea to do some research, or to talk to your dental professional if you have any questions. The NEESH team of dentists and support staff are dedicated to providing you with the professional, personalized, and gentle care that you deserve.

NEESH Dental Celebrates a New Look and a New Location In Downtown Saskatoon

CELEBRATING OUR NEW LOCATION WITH A COMMUNITY PANCAKE BREAKFAST.

After many months of planning, designing, consulting and renovations the NEESH Dental team are thrilled to be settled into our new downtown Saskatoon location on the corner of 4th Avenue and 21st St E . Even though geographically the move was not far, however, the changes to our surroundings and environment have been monumental.

A New Look for NEESH Dental

We made the decision to move primarily so we could better serve our clients. We were at the old location on 4th Avenue for 35 years, and had always made do as best we could with the layout and the challenges it presented. So when a prime location became available just steps away, we knew it was the opportunity we had been waiting for.

“After a deliberate process of consultation with our patients and staff, we came up with a design that would best serve and highlight the best that we can offer. We were also keen on contributing to the landscape of downtown Saskatoon: a space that has a dialogue with the streets. Crystal Bueckert of bldg studio was given the task of bringing our vision to life and she was exceptional at this, adding her own whimsical touches along the way. ” Dr Parviz Yazdani, Partner NEESH Dental.

“I had the pleasure of working on Dr. Yazdani’s second dental clinic. This is one of our favorite clients as he always has intricate design details that were brought to life through bldg. studio.incs design. This dental clinic is definitely one that you wouldn’t want to avoid going to. The bright colours and intricate millwork make this space inviting and match the friendly staff at Neesh Dental.Michelle Simonar, Project Manager, Strata Development

The new-look didn’t end with the location, we also refreshed our logo  & brand colours, which, along with the launch of our new clean, fresh website better reflects the identity and evolution of NEESH Dental.

A Snowy Day Didn’t Dim Celebrations

So, as you can imagine, we were excited to invite and welcome patients, friends and neighbours to our grand opening on Monday, October 28th, 2019, where we held a community support pancake breakfast. The event itself took a lot of planning and involved several other local companies. The coffee and pancakes were made and served hot by Lee and Grace, owners of HomeQuarter Coffee House & Bakery,  and mouth-watering sausage provided by Pig & Pantry completed the local farm to table breakfast experience.

Unfortunately, the one thing we couldn’t control was the Saskatchewan weather! Winter decided to make an appearance with a big dump of wet snow the weekend before the event, so our outside plans became inside plans. Luckily our new space has plenty of space and we were able to accommodate with minimal hassle.

Many Thanks to Everyone Involved

The event and move would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the stellar NEESH team, who consistently go the extra mile.

We also want to acknowledge the generous contribution of our guests, all monies donated at the event will be donated to support our cities, homeless citizens. We are also immensely grateful for the many cards, flowers, gifts, emails and genuine warm wishes that we have received.  The support is highly appreciated and valued.

“Thank you for the invite for my team to attend your grand opening. The pancake & sausage breakfast was the best way to start a wintery workweek, such a delicious treat!  We are so impressed with the design of the new location, it is an absolutely stunning edition to Downtown Saskatoon!”   Sara Wheelwright, Owner Trusted Marketing Services
